For major upgrades, restoration, or disaster recovery it may be neccesary to use the SpammerTrap recovery CD. The CD is a live boot CD with tools installed that allow SpammerTrap support staff the ability to remotely fix software problems on the SpammerTrap when it can't boot. Note: This is only applicable for models with a CD rom drive. If your model does not have a CD-ROM drive please contact SpammerTrap support at

- Download the SpammerTrap recovery CD (contact SpammerTrap Support for access).
- Burn the ISO image as a CD. For instructions on this please see your CD burner manufacturer.
- Insert the recovery CD into the SpammerTrap.
- Reboot or power on the SpammerTrap (pressing the power button for 1 second should power the device off softly).
- The CD will attempt to pull a DHCP address. If this fails, a local administrator will have to connect a keyboard and monitor to the device and manually assign an IP address. Please contact SpammerTrap support for instructions on manually assigning an IP address.
- Once booted and with a valid IP address, the recovery CD will attempt to "call home" using the same encrypted tunnel the SpammerTrap uses for maintenance, software and security updates (TCP/443 OUTBOUND). Please ensure your firewall policy will allow this.
- If successful, SpammerTrap support should receive an email notifying them the recovery CD was booted within 15 minutes. It's a good idea send SpammerTrap support an email letting them know to be looking for it.
- SpammerTrap support will access the device and repair the problem. Once done they will contact the onsite technical contact to remove the CD and reboot the SpammerTrap.
